I still remember the time when I was fourteen.
It wasn’t like ‘yesterday’, but it doesn’t feel like it was THAT long ago.
Fast forward close to three decades later, here I am with our fourteen year old teen!
Too fast!
“Thanks” to today’s gadgets, more and more kids tend to say, “I don’t know what I’m good at. I don’t know what I like. I’m not interested in anything actually.” (But somehow they are interested …

Too fast!
So here we are, spending our Friday night together at the movies, watching … Avengers: Infinity War!!
Don’t worry, I will not give out any spoilers here.
I’d like to share some points with you though.
If you are thinking of bringing along young kids to watch it, do note:
– Movie is 2 hours and 40 mins long
– Lots of fights and explosions (after all, it IS ‘war’), not gory though
– There is swearing here and there though not too heavy (which frankly I still wasn’t too happy about. Had a chat with the kids about it afterwards)
– Some kissing scenes (though not ‘lustful, heavy kissing’ type)
Other random things I’d like to point out:
– Do watch the movie until the VERY end! (yes, there are more scenes at the end. It’s nice anyway to see and appreciate the thousands of people who worked hard to produce the movie)
– Do NOT be annoying and give out spoilers! If you have watched and enjoyed the movie, good on you. Be fair, and let others enjoy the surprises, too.
– There’s a mocking reference to Jesus by Star Lord. Supposed to be a joke for movie-goers to laugh at, and I do NOT appreciate it. It’s a great movie even without that line. If such mockery were made on another religion’s ‘leader’, there will sure be boycotts and demonstrations around the world.
…
Anyway.
Glad that we didn’t watch the 3D version of it. For my age, 160 mins of war in 3D can potentially give me a massive headache 😁
I respect doctors.
But there simply are too many cases we personally know where doctors in Indonesia ‘misdiagnose’ their patients’ conditions.
Cases like,
Patient needed to only take medications, but doc suggested immediate surgery.
Patient needed to only rest for a week, but doc said the child had an abnormal condition since birth and needed further diagnosis.
Patient’s health is in bad condition, but doc said patient was okay and could go home.
…
Not every one can afford getting second opinions from docs overseasNot every one can afford getting second opinions from docs overseas.
Such misdiagnosis could result in unnecessary surgeries, and even … death =(
And, there’s nothing that the law can do about it?
…
Thankful for dedicated doctors out thereHaving said that though, I am thankful for dedicated doctors out there!
I am so thankful for doctor friends too who have helped our families over the years.
Thank you.

If you or your loved one are not well, may God give you extra strength and heal you.
If you’re well and healthy, let’s be grateful.
And, here’s wishing everyone good health and a heart full of gratefulness.

I believe it is the parents’ responsibility to instill in their kids that: siblings always have each other and they should always help one another, whether their parents are around or away.
And yes, even though your siblings get on your nerves too at times!

14yo. 11yo. 6yo.
I personally find it interesting to observe other people, … human behaviour in general, I mean.
Like for example, it is interesting to see how some people treat different people differently, depending on their social status and position.
If X is a janitor, then he’d get very little respect and hardly any ‘thank you’.
If Y is a wealthy businessman, then he’d get a bow and a humble handshake.
…
Some say, you get see people for who they really are in how they treat those who are inferior to them in terms of position or social status.
Well. I agree.
And in this respect, I think we ourselves need to do some self reflection, no?
ie. Do WE (unconsciously, may be) treat people differently if they’re perhaps in a more ‘inferior’ position than us?
Food for thought.
The kids – especially Levi – was made in charge of finding the ways around the theme park in our recent visit to Hong Kong Disneyland.
The 3 of them are often asked to queue for food/drinks, get the bills and pass the payments to the cashier, too (not only during holiday trips, but also on normal days)
These are just little acts we encourage in a hope to instill a sense responsibility, feel for directions and appreciation that for everything that they consume/receive, payments need to be made (by others, for them, at the moment).
Food for thought.

Boasting About Tomorrow
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”
14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.
17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

We usually have ‘family devotion time’ before the kids go to bed. It’s a quiet time we spend together where one parent would read the Bible and share some thoughts with them.
Here are some which we shared with them the other day:
– It’s not about NOT planning for our future, because we MUST have a plan for our future.
What’s being emphasised here is whether we include God at all in our plans. Whether we struggle to seek God’s will for our life and synchronise ourselves with His will.
Because, why would we want to be anywhere in the world if God is not with us?
– If God is with us, if we’re in sync with God’s will for us, then there will be peace and joy. You’ll bear fruits and be a blessing to others.
– God is good, and God loves us. His plans for us are good. And even when things are not convenient or comfortable, they are allowed to happen to shape us and change us for the better.
– Our life is so fragile. As it’s written, ‘You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.’.
It’s true. Plus, no one can know what will happen tomorrow.
– Remember to do good. Always.

Today I’d like to post a few questions that I have been thinking about too, lately.
How much time do we invest in our children going to school, different extra-curricular activities, enrichment lessons, sports practices, music …
Blessed to share. Share to bless.
Let’s talk about the need for rules and boundaries in a child’s life, and the kinds of consistency, relationship and grace needed.
