“Thanks” to today’s gadgets, more and more kids tend to say, “I don’t know what I’m good at. I don’t know what I like. I’m not interested in anything actually.” (But somehow they are interested …

It’s Been Two Weeks since We left Singapore

27 March 2012 | Posted in: Daily | 6 Comments

Hi everyone!

Yes, I’m still around =)

I have so many stories, updates and photos to share, BUT errr, I’m still stuck without proper internet connection.

We’ve finally moved into our own place, you see, and it has NO internet connection. Well, not yet. Am waiting for it to be activated.

My ‘best’ connection to the online world is the internet access I have on my iphone, and err, it’s not that fast, and I sometimes don’t get any signals.

(Yes, I’m typing this post from my phone)

Well, it’s just one of those things that I know I need to get myself used to, now that we are living in Jakarta, ie. When it comes to speed and technology, things may not be as fast and efficient as what I have always been exposed to in Singapore.

Anyway.

I’d just like to quickly share that we are doing good and are managing things pretty much okay so far.

I am very happy about our recent trip to Lombok *super love Gili Trawangan*

I am glad our ‘shipped boxes’ have all safely arrived.

I am grateful that all three kids are well.

Brie, who is 10 months old now , is so much more active and mobile though, and I’m finding it hard to do much stuff when she’s not sleeping.

I plan to partially home-school Vai till he enters Primary 1 next year.

And, Anya is starting school next week! Which means I will need to be able to drive and face the ‘interestingly challenging’ streets of Jakarta by … THIS WEEK! (I will need to ‘jia yo’ myself haha)

I share photos daily on Facebook and Twitter, and you are welcome to add/follow me yeah.

And yes, I will write more, hopefully REAL soon.

(Can’t wait to post our Lombok trip’s photos too!)

Hope you all have a great week!

Off to Lombok!

21 March 2012 | Posted in: Daily, Places to Visit | 3 Comments

Anya is starting school in April, and we just officially moved to Jakarta.

So, knowing that it’ll be a long while till we can have our next family holiday, we booked a trip to Lombok!

🙂

I am writing this post from Lombok, and I must say this: it’s a beauuuuutiful place!!

I highly recommend a visit to Lombok!

I will share more photos and our activities here soon!

In the mean time, you can follow our family adventure on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram!

I posted photos and updates daily there! 🙂

Cheers!

On The Day We Said Good Bye

16 March 2012 | Posted in: Daily | 7 Comments

Some of you who have been following my blog for some time would know that our family has recently moved overseas.

Actually, we all moved to a nearby country, a city where I spent my first fourteen years there.

The city of Jakarta =)

[I shared my thoughts on this big move right here]

Before I start writing posts on how things are here in Jakarta for us, I thought I should write about how it was when the ‘day of departure’ finally arrived.

Well. One thing was for sure : we were SO busy everyday over the last two weeks, packing and clearing our stuff (while caring for Brie who’s sick for a few days), that I didn’t quite have the time to stop and feel … too emotional.

(I knew I’d really miss my home and all, but I somehow tried to not think about it much too)

[Booked a 7-seater taxi to take us and ALL our luggages to the airport]

We rushed through everything that day. We still had documents to collect, small things to put into our bags, etc.

But, when it was time for me to step out of our home and rush down to our taxi, … this happened : I suddenly was overwhelmed by emotions.

I remember standing in the middle of our living room, looking around our empty home, and I just broke down and cried.

The surge of emotion was just overwhelming.

I guess it was because I knew I was spending my final few seconds inside the very place I’ve called home all these years.

The place where I watched my children played and grew.

The place where our family created and shared so many memories, sweet and bitter. Everything.

And the part that got to me the most was the fact that once I closed and locked that door, I knew I could no longer enter it like we usually did.

Ugh, it’s hard to explain what the feeling was like.

Some people thought that I was feeling sad about leaving Singapore because deep down I didn’t want to go to Jakarta.

Actually, no.

They are two different feelings.

I felt really sad about leaving Singapore and everything that we’ve built over the years.

But, at the same time I’m excited about the many new things we’ll be doing in Jakarta together as a family.

Errr, hope I’m making sense?

(Perhaps you’ve been in a similar situation?)

Anyway.

There’s one statement I heard over the weekend that encouraged me a lot. It said:

Let the past be the past, and let us move ahead for there are wonderful tasks, challenges and responsibilities that are waiting to be carried out and accomplished.

I like that.

And I’d like to do that.

So yes, while we treasure the past, we’d choose to move ahead. Together. As a family, and with God as our Guide.

Jakarta, here we come.

Let Us All Do This: “30 days of Love, In Pictures”

14 March 2012 | Posted in: Daily, Photography | 2 Comments

[“Love Daddy-Daughter moments like this”]

These days, almost everyone takes pictures.

We use our compact cameras, bulky DSLRs, mobile phones, smartphones. Anything.

We take photos of our children, our family, our friends and colleagues, things we do, sights we see, and stuff we eat too!

AND, it sure is very common these days to see these shots being shared on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

So with THIS in mind, I’d like to invite as many of you as possible to do this EVERYDAY for THIRTY days. An ‘activity’ I call “30 Days of Love, In Pictures“.

[“Love the silly grin as our 5.5yo boy enjoyed his favourite Yong Tou Fu at Kopitiam, Singapore!”]

Here’s more about it:

– Take photos of things/people whom you love/appreciate

For people, it could be anyone who’s impacted on you positively (eg. Loved ones, and even a helpful uncle at a coffee shop, or a friendly hawker =)

[“Love how this hawker smiles, and cooks his yummy pasta super fast too, for more than a decade!”]

For things, it could be the food you love to eat, precious gifts you receive, different sights in Singapore that you see and treasure, services which you appreciate, etc.

And, don’t forget to add the caption: “Love …”
eg. “Love the beautiful sunset” or “Love spending time with my girlfriends” or “Love my Bubble Tea” =)

When you’re creating a Facebook album, do name the album “30 Days of Love, In Pictures” yeah.

If you’re tweeting or using Instagram etc, please use this hashtag #30daysofloveinpictures

I’m inspired to do this initiative after I saw how itsmyturn.sg is calling out for people to initiate something on their website!

And I thought, hey … we all take photos SO easily these days, don’t we? So why not take photos, share them and share the love and positivity with others?

Yes?

A photo a day. For 30 days.

30 Days of Love, In Pictures!

I hope many of you can participate and join me!

Let’s share YOUR ’30 days of Love, In Pictures’, because it’s amazing how love and positivity towards life can really be contagious!!

[‘Love this yummy and refreshing dessert, anytime!’]

Let me know if you’re joining by going to the itsmyturn.sg website and clicking ‘YES, I’LL BE PARTICIPATING!’ link yeah!

When they ask you to create an account, you can always just connect via your Facebook if you on FB.

It’s fast and easy! =)

Here’s the link again:  http://itsmyturn.sg/participate/details/page/-30-days-of-love-in-pictures-

Hope to see many of you doing the ’30 Days of Love, In Pictures” action!

Let’s spread the love!

Pack. Pack. Pack.

12 March 2012 | Posted in: Daily | 5 Comments

Hi everyone,

I have less than 36 hours left here in Singapore, and the process of clearing and packing away is … mad!

We’ve cleared so much, and yet there are STILL things around waiting to be sorted and cleared/packed! *yikes*

Those who are on my Facebook would probably know that Brie was really sick last week, for a few days.

She was very weak, and she couldn’t breathe well because of the thick mucus building up in her airways / throat. She couldn’t sleep/drink/eat well for a few days, and it was agonising for her as much as it was for me who cared for her day in and day out.

Hardly any packing could be done during those days, BUT I’m simply glad that she’s doing much much better today.

(She still has cough with phlegms, but there’s hardly any more wheezing, and she’s back to her smiling and happy self. Thank God! =)

Am glad too that amidst our busyness, we still manage to catch up with some friends, and enjoy some farewell lunches / dinner gatherings with them!

(Been enjoying my favourite ‘Teh-Peng’ nearly everyday too, hehe)

Anyway.

I most likely will be able to update my Facebook more frequently during my first few days in Jakarta. So if you’d like to know how our little is doing, you’re most welcome to add me on Facebook yeah!

Oh btw,  while I get busy packing and clearing our home, you may want to browse my past archives?

Checking Out : The Newly Opened Dry & Wet RoofTop Water Playground @ Tampines 1

7 March 2012 | Posted in: Places to Visit | 7 Comments

Here’s one place that you can check out with the little ones if you happen to be in the East of Singapore! =)

It’s at the rooftop of Tampines 1 Mall, and it’s dedicated for families with little ones.

Animal-themed water play areas AND playground too!

Extra Info:

– The rooftop water playground is officially opened to the public this Saturday, 10 March (we were there on a media preview for bloggers)

– I think children will generally love the place! Who would say NO to waterplay, anyway =)

– The whole area is rather small though, so if you’re coming over the weekends, do be prepared for the weekend crowds.

– They have changing / shower areas, which I thought was nice. Again, the area is rather small, but it’s still better than none, if you ask me.

Anyway.

Here’s one more FREE water playground for us families!

*YAY*

Sunday’s Food for Thought : ‘Forgive Me When I Whine’

4 March 2012 | Posted in: Inspirational | One Comment

Living in a world where almost everything needs ‘to be better so we can be happier’, we (including our children) often find it hard to live a life full of thanksgiving.

I came across this story which I’d like to share with you today.

Hope it’s a blessing to you as it has been for me and my children.

Today upon a bus, I saw a lovely maid with golden hair; I envied her —
she seemed so happy, and how, I wished I were so fair;
When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle;
she had one foot and wore a crutch, but as she passed, she smiled.

Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two feet — the world is mine.

And when I stopped to buy some sweets, the lad who served me had such charm;
he seemed to radiate good cheer, his manner was so kind and warm;
I said, “It’s nice to deal with you, such courtesy I seldom find”;
he turned and said, “Oh, thank you sir.” And then I saw that he was blind.

Oh, God, forgive me when I whine, I have two eyes, the world is mine.

Then, when walking down the street, I saw a child with eyes of blue;
he stood and watched the others play, it seemed he knew not what to do;
I stopped a moment, then I said, “Why don’t you join the others, dear?”
He looked ahead without a word, and then I knew he could not hear.

Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I’d go;
with eyes to see the sunsets glow,
with ears to hear what I would know.
I am blessed indeed.
The world is mine;
oh, God, forgive me when I whine.

Problems in Leaving Comments?

1 March 2012 | Posted in: Daily | No Comment

Hi everyone,

I’ve received some feedbacks that readers are not able to leave comments, and are receiving error messages (on 28 – 29 Feb). Some left comments, clicked ‘submit’, but then the comments didn’t appear (ie. Gone!)

It’s strange because it’s all okay on my side.

Anyway, I’ve tried to fix the issue. But the problem seems to still stick around.

If you’ve left comments in the past 2 days and they’re not found anywhere (ie. They should immediately be published), I hope you can leave your comments again yeah.

If you still somehow cannot leave comments, you can always drop me an email yeah: leonny[at]oureverydaythings[dot]com

Thanks everyone!
