On Being The First born.
[Anya is now 6.5yo, and she was 2.5yo when Vai was born]
There’s this one book I’d like to get my hands on soon.
It’s called ‘The New Birth Order Book: Why You Are the Way You Are‘, by Dr Kevin Leman.
I believe a child’s order of birth somehow affects his/her characters. Not ‘cast in stone’, of course, because I also believe there are just so many factors and situations that take place in a child’s life that will influence the shaping of his/her characters.
For example, Anya is a first born, and she just has this ‘thing’ about :
– being the one who makes the decision
– being better than others
– being organised
I’d really like to find out what Dr Kevin Leman shared on this ‘birth order’ topic. First born. Middle born. Last born. Potential family issues. How he managed his kids’ different characters, etc.
I’m sure the book will be insightful!
(Just like his other books I’ve learned a lot from which I mentioned in my blog before, eg. ‘Making children mind without losing yours‘, ‘First time mom‘, ‘What a difference a Daddy Makes‘)
Anyway.
Have you read the book?
Are you a first born?
How’s the first born in your family?
How are your child’s (first born) overall characters?
…

Hi Priscilla,
I’ve placed the order online! Can’t wait to read the book! Would LOVE to understand my kids better too!
I’m the youngest out of 4 sisters (ALL girls), and I know I’m the more ‘noisy’ one of the lot haha.
Ohhhhh Leonny, you HAVE to read this book. Yes, I have read it, it is very insightful, very informative and definitely very helpful in understanding your child better. It sits right next to my bed with all other parenting, self-help, marketing books I read all the time. I am not the first born, I am the 4th out of five girls, but I get a good laugh by relating to the many characteristics depict by mt eldest, middle and yiungest sister. But the most eye-opening part I read is how that book relate to my 2nd child, and the FIRST girl in the family. So while 2nd born, she is still the first girl and can show many characteristics of the 1st born. Oh, then I began to understand her more and felt better with the fact that it is ok for her to be so “executive” in her decisions, like a big MD of the household at times and shown some great leadership skills for a pre-schooler : ) If I compare my 1st and 2nd born, a boy and a girl, I feel my 2nd child is definitely stronger in character but more carefree, easy going. My 1st child is very cautious, and in the book it also explains that was also caused by 1st time parenting when the parents are a lot more cautious. Now with my 3rd one, hahahaha, I am too scared to think of what will be in store for me. All good, all good, kids, never a dull day and moment with them.
