Thoughts: Boasting About Tomorrow
Food for thought.
From James 4:13-17

Boasting About Tomorrow
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”
14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.
17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

We usually have ‘family devotion time’ before the kids go to bed. It’s a quiet time we spend together where one parent would read the Bible and share some thoughts with them.
Here are some which we shared with them the other day:
– It’s not about NOT planning for our future, because we MUST have a plan for our future.
What’s being emphasised here is whether we include God at all in our plans. Whether we struggle to seek God’s will for our life and synchronise ourselves with His will.
Because, why would we want to be anywhere in the world if God is not with us?
– If God is with us, if we’re in sync with God’s will for us, then there will be peace and joy. You’ll bear fruits and be a blessing to others.
– God is good, and God loves us. His plans for us are good. And even when things are not convenient or comfortable, they are allowed to happen to shape us and change us for the better.
– Our life is so fragile. As it’s written, ‘You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.’.
It’s true. Plus, no one can know what will happen tomorrow.
– Remember to do good. Always.
