For Busy Parents : “Slow Down Mummy”, by Rebekah Knight
Parents nowadays,
So busy, juggling so many hats and responsibilities.
But at the end of the day,
are we ‘neglecting’ and ‘not spending the needed time’ with our very own little people who need us and our time the most?
I read this poem recently, and oh I felt guilty.
Sometimes I feel too physically tired that I skip reading books with the kids.
Often I have so much work that I don’t stop to laugh and have fun with them.
Childhood is not here to stay.
Childhood is not here to stay.
It’s a fact, and I’d like to remind myself about this again today.
I hope the poem below inspires you too,
to slow down and spend more time with the children, everyday.
…
Slow Down Mummy
by Rebekah Knight
Slow down mummy, there is no need to rush,
slow down mummy, what is all the fuss?
Slow down mummy, make yourself a cup of tea.
Slow down mummy, come and spend some time with me.
Slow down mummy, let’s put our boots on and go out for a walk,
let’s kick at piles of leaves, and smile and laugh and talk.
Slow down mummy, you look ever so tired,
come sit and snuggle under the duvet and rest with me a while.
Slow down mummy, those dirty dishes can wait,
slow down mummy, lets have some fun, lets bake a cake!
Slow down mummy I know you work a lot,
but sometimes mummy, its nice when you just stop.
Sit with us a minute,
& listen to our day,
spend a cherished moment,
because our childhood is not here to stay!

I just want to say I love this poem. It does make me feel guilty . I have 2 girls Ashlyn (2 years) Maddie (4 months) I’ve been a stay at home mom for the past 8 months and between appointments, errand running, house cleaning I still stay so busy and exhausted , I still Dont spend as much mommy baby time as I’d like with my girls. I thought not working would help but it almost seems like there’s more work now! And although I’m greatful I’m with them 24/7 it’s not what I expected. I find myself telling
my toddler to go play or watch her movies while I’m cleaning or tending to the new baby. And by the time everything is done and settled down its their bedtime. This poem has just inspired me to make a point for 1 on 1 time with my babies. Especially my oldest. The dishes and laundry and sweeping can wait. I can put off running to the store so often .. Maybe extend my oldests bedtime. I’m trying to go back to work which will make even less time so I need to make a point to spend as much time now until I get hired. Anyway sorry for rambling! Awesome poem!
Thankyou so much for sharing my poem! I am amazed how many people it has reached and who it has touched x

Thanks Rebekah for dropping by and for the beautiful poem.
It’s a great reminder to us busy parents.
Beautiful picture of the three siblings together. 😀
Thank you! =)
They’re growing up too fast though!
I happened to read this poem on Facebook a few days ago and it touched me. I too felt guilty for rushing day in and day out, juggling with all the various responsibilities and chores of life. What you’ve said is so true, childhood is not here to stay. Our kids grow up too fast. Thanks once again for this reminder to slow down… 🙂
