Sunday’s Food for Thought : The Heavens Declare The Glory of God

1 July 20128 Comments

I guess it’s just natural.

It’s natural for us to find it difficult to appreciate the beauty of nature, the amazing works of God’s hands, … when we live in a busy city, surrounded by thousands of vehicles and buildings, breathing in polluted air. Every single day.

Earlier today however, I sat on a balcony, at 5.50am, in COMPLETE AWE of the absolute beauty of God’s creation.

I was at Cijeruk, West Java.

And I had the view of rows of mountains, layers of rising fog, hectares of plantations, the sun still hidden behind the mountains … right in front of my very eyes.

I. Was. Speechless.

I looked at what’s presented in front of me, and I simply was … in awe.

I knew I had to remember that very moment.

I took deep breaths of the fresh morning air.

And captured it immediately with my iphone.

Then I just sat there, tightly wrapped in my blue blanket.

Minutes later, I read this on my iphone :

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.

They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.

Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.

It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.

(Psalm 19:1-6)

We naturally tend to be more focused on what we experience and see around us : traffic jams, daily chores, kids to take care of, misbehaviours needing to be tackled and addressed, house mess to clean, bills to pay, concrete buildings and the four walls that surround us.

No wonder we – city dwellers –  find it too easy to forget about God, I thought.

It’s because we don’t get to see HIS majestic works that much.

We naturally tend to be more focused on what we experience and see around us : traffic jams, daily chores, kids to take care of, misbehaviours needing to be tackled and addressed, house mess to clean, bills to pay, concrete buildings and the four walls that surround us.

Am so grateful to get such a reminder today.

That God is majestic, almighty and is the Creator of all things.

The same God who loves me, redeems and saves me from the punishment of my sins.

Thank God for this reminder, I tell myself.

Because I too easily forget.
