When we simply need to relieve THAT pain …

20 September 20107 Comments

I don’t know how familiar you are with Salonpas, but I totally grew up with this brand name!

My WHOLE family knows Salonpas!

My grandparents and parents would even specifically request that I get a few packs for them whenever we go and visit them in Jakarta!

And check this out!

I searched my inbox and found this email from my mom sent to me last year (see the date print on the photo!)

She went to the extent of taking a shot of the Salonpas pack that she bought during her visit to Singapore last year, and emailed the photo to me all the way from Jakarta (ie. the screenshot above!), just so that I got her the RIGHT brand and type.

She even told me how I could easily buy these packs at major pharmacies, supermarkets and shops!

Hehe. Her request was very specific.

Anyway.

I must admit though that I tend to associate these Salonpas packs with the ‘older generation’ in my family!

I buy Salonpas Pain Relief Patch by the packs for my family.

But never for myself.

After all, they’re the ones who’re more ‘in need’ of such pain relief, right?

Errr … Wrong!

I occasionally DO get uncomfortable stiffness and some mild pain on my shoulders, upper and lower back!

Which I usually just (try to uncomfortably) … ignore.

Well, that is … UNTIL I was sponsored 3 packs of that exact Salonpas Pain Relief Patch to try for myself and review!

Oh btw, you know what?

I got these packs exactly the day AFTER Wilson and I went go-karting!

Yes, exactly when my right arm was all very sore!

SO.

I got both Anya and Vai to help and put the patch on my upper arm!

[The patch is thin, stretchable and flexible! Patch size is 7cm x 10cm!]

[They were like, ‘YAY! Let’s put this on Mommy!’]

It was my first time seeing the inside of the pack too!

And I thought the plastic film and the slit was a really nice feature.

Even the kids found it easy to peel and apply!

Errr … they tested out the patch first though, and saw how it was flexible and could get ‘stretched’ from side to side!

After that, they put the patch on my upper right arm.

[I’d personally apply the patch where it can’t be seen, OR, wear something that ‘covers’ the patch when I go out and about. But, even if you choose not to cover it, the ‘skin colour’ of the patch does make it less conspicuous]

And.

This is what I found:

– Within seconds, I could feel the patch ‘working’ (you know, that nice heaty feeling meant to relieve the mild muscle ache on the area)

– Great elasticity and adhesion! (ie. stretched accordingly when my arm moved about)

– When I took the patch off a few hours later, there’s NO sticky/greasy feel, NO mess and I could peel it off easily!

[No wonder my mom was SO specific about which Pain Relief Patch to get for the family!]

So.

There you go.

Now I know what Pain Relief Patch I can use when my arms or upper / lower back aches!

@Raena: Totally agree how the older version left this gum/gluey bits on the skin! The new patch was soo good.

Haven’t tried the spray though. Hmm … I should get one for my family when I visit them!

  • Raena says:

oh the spray is great too!! very handy..especially when your arms/shoulder/back ache and you can’t bend/stretch/contort them to paste the sticker.

  • Raena says:

Salonpas is the BEST! In all situations…am so happy that they’ve come up with this new patch sticker..the original one would be really painful peeling off (like waxing..takes off hair too!)..and left gum/glue bits. I absolutely love Salonpas. Yes, it has always been associated with older peeps..especially the distinct scent! haha.. but I’ve been using it since my days in sec school…after training. everyone takes out deep heat.. I take out salonpas!! haha =)
