Kids’ Swimming Lessons: We’ve finally started ours!
I wrote about ‘Swimming Lessons: When should we start‘ in September last year.
This was what I wrote:
We feel the ability to swim is one of the basic ’survival’ skills one needs to have, but we’re still waiting for the right time to enrol them BOTH together (because it IS more convenient for me to send them BOTH to classes at the same time)
…
At the time I was thinking of sending them both when Vai turns 4yo.
And so here we are today. Nearly a year later.
Vai’s turning 4yo next week (ALREADY!), and they both have attended TWO swimming lessons together with two other friends.
[If you ask me, I think a group of 4 children, aged between 4yo – 6yo, is just nice. Not too big a group that they get too little personal attention and coaching, and not too small a group that they have little time to rest in between turns]
I must say I am impressed at how well all four kids are progressing after each lesson.
I guess it’s because I thought it’ll be slow, eg. learning ‘how to put your head under water for a few seconds’ will take one whole lesson or something.
I was wrong.
By their second lesson, they’re introduced to breaststroke‘s leg movements! Already!
Anyway.
Both Anya and Vai SO look forward to each swimming lesson.
It’s FUN plus WATER-PLAY to them, I guess!
…
[Photo below]
The kids were taught how to do a jump into the water during an emergency. In that photo, Vai was supposed to have both hands in front holding onto his life-jacket. The second time he did the jump, he jumped ONTO the coach!

Hi Fin,

hi leonny, pls send me the instructor contact no. many thanks!
Hi Henry,
Will message the coach’s contact directly to you soon yeah! 🙂
Hi Sumi,
So far both my kids really look fwd to their lessons! 🙂
I notice, Anya (being 6yo) is progressing better than Vai (who’s 4yo). They started the lesson together last August, as it’ll be easier to send BOTH kids (rather than one kid on one day and the other kid to a different lesson on a different day).
Based on the different feedbacks I received from friends, I gather it’s better to wait till the child is a little older (eg. at least 5yo) to start their swimming lesson as they’ll pick the skills ‘faster’ (coordination skills etc are more developed, I guess).
Anyway, will message you the coach’s contact number separately yeah! 🙂
Hi Renee,
Sorry for the late reply to your question…
The fee is $50 per month (4 x 1 hour) and you can always contact the coach to ask if he’s starting a lesson for beginners soon. The current group started some 3 months ago and I’d personally recommend joining a group with similar swimming abilities for ease of coaching and learning.
Will message you the phone of the coach yeah!
Hi,
I am also keen to start the swimming lesson for my sons. Can I have the instructor’s contact? Tks.
Hi there…
My girl is 3 yrs old and I am thinking of sending her for a swimming class. 🙂 Can I have the contact number of the instructor?
How is it so far for your kids? Hope they are still having fun with it.
Thank you.
Hi, can I know where is this swimming lesson taken place. Can I join? I’ve a little girl age 6 and is very keen to learn swimming. How much is the fee and when does the lesson takes place?
Evelyn:
Sure … will message you 🙂

Hi there, yes, our group engages him for one hour every week. As to whether ‘he is good’, well … we’ve only had 2 lessons with him. I feel he’s not one who ‘builds close’ relationships with the kids he teach though … or perhaps it’s just his personality or his general approach..I’m not sure. I know of at least 5 other friends whose kids are coached by him so I went with their recommendations 🙂
Right now, the kids only have Chinese (held ‘at’ school, once a week, 15mins after school ends) and swimming (which is straight after chinese), so the only day that they’re ‘busy’ is that one particular day.
Both kids stay back after school for chinese (on the same day), and they both go to the same swimming lesson … so in terms coping, it’s not that difficult because I do it ‘at the same time’ for both kids.
Anya no longer does ballet. A bit of a long story … Anyway, in short, she feels she’s not that keen on ballet anymore (not sure if it’s because of the way the teacher conducts the classes and deals with the students). Regardless, we let her explore other areas … which is swimming this time round 🙂
Hi Leonny,
I’m looking for a coach for my kid & a few of her friends, may I have more info of the coach that you engage, eg name, contact, the name of the swimming school, monthly fees, etc. Pls send me a private msg.
Thank you so much.
Dewi:
Yup, a friend recommended the coach … we need to engage own coach.
Will email you more info ya .. 🙂
