Video: Kids and Their New Sports’ Progress
Just recently I shared about how we started the year with both kids picking up new sports.
Anya’s learning how to rollerblade.
Vai’s learning how to ride a two-wheeled scooter.
It’s been a great learning journey full of falls and tumbles, as well as determination and persistence.
And to share how it’s been for them, I’ve uploaded FOUR video clips!

Now.
Since Vai has learned how to balance himself on a two-wheeled scooter, we thought of letting him try out his bike with the extra two wheels on the sides REMOVED.
And Vai tried it out last Sunday (24 January) for the very first time.
Here’s how it went.

We’ve all seen photos of a parent holding onto his child’s bike, helping him learn how to balance on two wheels.
And you know, sometimes I find it a little hard to believe that we’re ALREADY at that ‘phase’ too!
Bending down, encouraging the kid, pushing the bike forward, seeing him fall, repeating the whole process, seeing him move forward by himself, feeling the joy of seeing the kid make some positive progress.
And for us parents, once this ‘phase’ is over, it’s over (I mean, once the kid acquires the skills, he knows it ‘for life’, and we won’t have the chance to teach them such skills anymore).
And so I’m just enjoying the phase.
While I still can.

I love the way you write and how you bring up your kids according to His Words! PTL for your many encouraging and ‘thinking’ posts esp on parenting! 🙂
I’m keen to get another bike for my son cos the one we gotten last year is still to high for him. I suspesct tt altho they say its a 12″ wheels (supposed to be the smallest), I believe the wheels is 12″ but the frame isn’t. Haha! oh well!
Vai’s bike seems small enough, can you pls share where u bought it and how much you paid? I like that the centre bar is slanted n not straight.
I think Vai has done a fab job in learning to scoot n ride so quickly!! Such a brave boy! 🙂

These are all new to Vai and looking at how he’s not interested in the scooter at the beginning because it’s hard to balance himself on it, I frankly didn’t expect him to pick it up that fast in the end.
(which basically encouraged us to remove the training wheels on his bike altogether haha)
I guess we can never ‘underestimate’ any kid’s learning potential huh … ?

I guess each kid is different ya when it comes to learning such ‘balancing skills’ … because even Anya at her age (5yrs 10mths) still doesn’t ride Vai’s two-wheeled bike (or the scooter) as confidently or competently as Vai.
They’ll all manage in the end, just at different timings I guess 😀

Wow Leonny, I’m very impressed by Vai. He’s handling both the scooter & bike so well and hurray for his bravery. Now i wondered if is ok for Jamie to take on the 2 wheels later on since he is still handicapped with the 4 wheels bike… Anyway, it’s so fun to see Vai in the video, he’s a darling!
I was smiling all the time while watching Vai’s video clips. Bravo Vai, good job!
He really has a great sense of balance and daring enough too to take up all the falls and bumps. Erm, Dylan is still in the stage of four-wheels ride and he can be too cautious when trying new stuff.
