Education Quotes of the Day
[Vai smiling happily at the school’s playground today]
Today is the first day of school for most kids in Singapore.
(And, the first day of nursery school if the child turns four years of age this year, like Vai)
And so today, I thought of sharing with you five different quotes on education which I personally find interesting and inspiring.
Here they are:
“Children require guidance and sympathy far more than instruction.”
Anne Sullivan
“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.”
James Baldwin
“Correction does much, but encouragement does more.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
“In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.”
Mortimer Adler
““Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”
Chinese Proverb
…
Any other quotes on education you’d like to share too perhaps?

Le, great quotes. Our preschool also believes in this verse, taken from Proverb 22:6 — Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
We are a not-for-profit educational organization, founded by Mortimer Adler and we have recently made an exciting discovery–three years after writing the wonderfully expanded third edition of How to Read a Book, Mortimer Adler and Charles Van Doren made a series of thirteen 14-minute videos, lively discussing the art of reading. The videos were produced by Encyclopaedia Britannica. For reasons unknown, sometime after their original publication, these videos were lost.
Three hours with Mortimer Adler on one DVD. A must for libraries and classroom teaching the art of reading.
I cannot over exaggerate how instructive these programs are–we are so sure that you will agree, if you are not completely satisfied, we will refund your donation.
