When ‘Flying’ seems more fun than ‘Bedtime’
Vai : ‘Mommy! Check this out! Weeeeee …’
Anya : ‘Wait Vai, waittt!ย …ย urghhhh … I wanted to go first!’
…
There are times when the kids are already in their pajamas and it’s close to bedtime, BUT they’re still bursting with so much energy.
And so what did they wish to do?
Well.
THIS was what they did.
Jump off, from one bed to another!
Pre-bedtime madness.
oh well.
At least they get to practise the art of ‘landing-successfully-on-both-feet-after-jumping-off-the-cliff’!

hehe … your hubby will get quite a bit a shock if he saw this pic then ya? ๐
Anyway, since I didn’t get to write more details in the blog post (was kinda pressed for time at the time), I thought of sharing a bit more of some ‘basic rules’ that we apply to our kids …
Here goes :
– The kids are allowed to do the ‘stunts’ ONLY WHEN either me or my hubby is around
– When Anya first jumped, she didn’t land on ‘both feet’ (she should land with knee half-bent, as if she’s about to squat). She just ‘anyhow’ landed on the matrass, and to me that style is more ‘dangerous’.
And so I taught her how to land ‘properly’ (Vai naturally landed on both feet after he jumped). When she didn’t change the way she landed, I told her if she continued to land that way, I won’t allow her to jump again. And after that she started landing in a ‘better style’.
– I totally ‘forbid’ the kids from silly play when they’re about to jump (eg. giving each other a little push, etc). They’re told that if they wanted to jump etc, they could, but no pushing / touching / tickling… If they chose to be silly and not listen, they know I won’t allow them to continue with the jump, etc.
– I like the kids to have a sense of adventure, to dare and try something that’s a little different from their usual ‘routine’ (and since the idea totally came from the kids themselves, I let them:)
The interesting thing is, they at times don’t even dare to jump off the side of the swimming pool towards me (who’s already in the pool with my arms stretched out ready to catch them). So when they wanted to do these jumps in their bedroom, I let them try it out, under my supervision
– I want them to learn that when they do something ‘adventurous’, they need to know (and explore) their own limits and capability before they go ahead with the move. And this principle applies to all aspects in life and I’d like them to carry this as they grow up
– And since they’re still young, I’d like them to explore this WITH ME by their side, because I sure don’t want them to ‘test things’ when I’m not around to watch over their stunts (Anyway, by now they know that they should always have adults by their side when they want to try such stunts:)
Anyway … just a little ‘added’ sharing from me .. ๐
And I know too that every family has their own ‘rules and regulations’ .. so I totally respect yours ๐
I LIKE THIS… GOOD SHOT!… hahaha
Great shot! i love how you let you kids do “dangerous” things ๐
Oh my! Leonny….if this is my son, he will sure be smack by his father! I never use cane, but my hubby never spare the rod. However, this is too dangerous. My son loves to jump too but we never allowed him for such an act. I wonder sometimes did I really KILL his curiosity? (relates to your other post).
Gd shot but.. Wau.. looks really dangerous.. Anyway chance upon ur blog n was hooked! Voted for u, if there’s a cateogry for local mummy blog, i think u will win!
