Marina Barrage, Singapore’s Latest Reservoir
On the very last day of 2008, we went to check out the ‘Carnival and Countdown Festival‘ at the Marina Barrage, Singapore’s latest reservoir!
By the time we got there it was already 3pm. It was a bit cloudy but somehow it was really glary and warm! Vai’s napped away on his pram, and so Anya and Daddy went to check out the reservoir together. They walked barefeet hand in hand around the waterplay area too!
[During the two-day Carnival, apparently there’re FREE water activities at the Jetty for those above 12 years old! Really really too bad no one else was with us at the time to help babysit the kids, because otherwise Wilson and I would love to try out kayaking there!]
Anyway, we took heaps of photos and here’s how the day went for us, in pictures.
…
Once we entered the area we could see a bridge that twirls around the main courtyard.
I guess the view from up there would be nice and all, but I simply wasn’t interested in walking up the bridge under the bright warm sun while pushing a pram with Vai still sleeping on it. So Wilson went up by himself while we waited under the shade on courtyard.
[Photo was taken by Wilson using his fish-eye lens]
As soon as Vai woke up from his nap, the kids tried out a paddle boat ride, where they basically hand-pedalled a little boat to get it moving about [It was $3 per child per 5-min ride]
And judging from Anya’s reaction after the ride (read: she cried and cried asking for a much longer session!), I assumed the kids did find the ride really really fun!
We were there for a good two hours or so, and before we left (crowds started coming in big groups towards the end of the day to watch the midnight fireworks!), we checked out the Green Roof too – It’s where the Countdown Party and stage performances were to be held!
[Spot the Singapore Flyer in the background?]
AND, I heard the view from the Green Roof is really really nice at night.
May be next time then.

How to get there: Free shuttle bus from the Marina Bay MRT to Marina Barrage
Hi Gwenneth,
hey thanks for sharing your trip to Marina Barrage! We didn’t visit the gallery when we were there, but will surely check it out the next time we go there.
Really want to see how nice the view is from the Green Roof at night though! ๐
Hi Leonny,
We packed a picnic lunch to Marina Barrage on the weekend with our kids and nephew. We reached at 10:30am and went up the walkway to the Green Roof. The wind was so strong our hats kept getting blown off! The view is great too. Then we visited the Sustainable Singapore gallery. Not sure if you had a chance to check it out but I thought that I would bring my kids back again there when they are a bit older so they can appreciate the history and scientific facts about water displayed in the gallery.
It was a great place and I love that when the midday sun came out, we could go downstairs to the sheltered courtyard and waterplay area. The kids had tons of fun splashing in the waterplay area after lunch.
Thanks for recommending this place on your site. Will definitely go back there again. =)
Hi Val!
Not too sure how the place will be like without the carnivals though. They have a Gallery though there that you can check out too.
The night scene should be quite nice from the roof garden! ๐
Hi Sherry!
Thanks for subscribing and glad you like the content in the website too!
Photos on my site go through some photoshop works so that I can achieve the look and feel I’d prefer. I share a bit about it on this post :
http://www.oureverydaythings.com/2008/01/photos-on-this-blog-what-are-my-cameras/
And put the photos side by side in photoshop too.
I’d love to encourage people to explore more of photography together, take more photos especially with their loved ones, and I’ve just created a facebook group which I shared here :

Do come and join ya! And most importantly, share your pics ๐
gab was mentioning about going to this place. thanks for the post.
Will definitely go check it out.
Love your website, subscribing to it now. Question. How or what tools do you use to place the pictures side by side together?
Hmmm… yet another place to check out when we come to visit in 3x weeks ๐ Thanks Leonny for being so great with highlighting all these nice kid-friendly places.
Wow!! Those are great pictures! It looks so huge from that top view!!
