Warning : ‘Terrible Two’ days ahead
Little children are naturally sweet and adorable. But on the other side of the coin, when they’re unhappy about something, their behaviour can be rather shocking to many (usually to those who’re not their own parents!)
I mean, a toddler can be all cute and cuddly, but within minutes he may become unhappy about something and let out his best screaming performance, regardless of when and where he is at the time.
[Yes that’s us humans and our sinful nature]
Next month Vai turns two, and while he can be really sweet, cooperative and understanding, many times he does things that one wouldn’t generally imagine him do.
He can scream at the top of his lungs, test my authority, strongly assert his wants, throw toys (to the wall, to the floor AND to people – for the sake of simply finding out the ‘effect’ of his action), frown and slap my arm to show his displeasure, kick and fuss, put up his ‘i-don’t-care-what-you’ll-do-to-me’ face when I raise my voice at him and firmly reprimand him after he badly misbehaves.
[I’ll write a little bit more about his (AND Anya’s) recent emotional roller-coaster soon]
For now, though I’m very glad he still shares many many sweet moments with us everyday, somehow I just have this strong feeling that whatever tough situation I’m getting from him right now, it’s only the TIP of his ‘Terrible Two’ iceberg.
My instinct tells me to prepare myself mentally as best as I can, for there’ll be more ‘interesting’ (read: challenging and mind-numbing) things to come from this little guy as he strives for his growing independence and draws closer to turning two years old.
We’ll see how things go.

2,3 months ago our little shan2 hits the beginning mark of her terrible 2 and on going.
And i was frantically searching for answers, tips, stories on others whom had past experience and have similar incident.
Really glad to have known your blog and somehow i feel comforted even by reading such an old blog post.
thank you.

Yes!
Kids do and say the weirdest (and yet funniest) things some times! And yes, I’ve encountered times when they do something that should rightfully be ‘told off’, but I had to ‘swallow’ my laughter first n put a straight face before speaking to them! 🙂

Samantha & Priscilla :
In my head I know it’s just a phase, but actually going through the phase and facing their seeming change in temperaments is a totally different challenge for parents!
At Vai’s age, the tough bit is when I have repeat myself and remind him when he does things he shouldn’t have done.
To keep me going, I tell myself that at Vai’s age, kids have ‘short term memory’ so I can’t demand and expect them to do what I’ve said/reminded SO many times before.
Oh well .. just a phase us parents and kids themselves have to go through huh?
I am feeling better after reading your post – it shows that I am not alone!!!
Mac is 27 mth and has started showing the terrible 2 signs though he is still sooo adorable. Callista has been very very temperamental although hubby has been helping in taking care of Mac in order for me to spend most time with Callista. I am like a crazy woman (esp during wkends) having to raise my voice at them! Sigh…
Leonny, you’re not alone. Cayden also the same. So I must constantly keep reminding “To be nice please” or “Quiet please”. I use the word “Please” very frequent as he know the concept & meaning.
Vai looks absolutely adorable! Even when he’s throwing his temper! Has he done anything wrong that should be corrected, but instead, you found it so funny you have trouble keeping a straight face while telling him it isn’t the right thing?
